The hosts, Jairo Moreno and Fany Vanegas, warmly welcomed the visitors, who were captivated by the lush nature, majestic mountains, diverse birdlife, and, of course, the specialty coffee grown on the farm and served in cafés in Bogotá and Tunja.

A Taste of Local Cuisine

Doña Fany shared that, the tourists requested to try a traditional dish from Lengupá's cuisine. They were served Boyacá-style arepas, wood-fired roasted beef and chicken, vegetable rice, fried cassava, and a refreshing passion fruit juice made with produce grown on the farm.

The Story Behind the Coffee

The Story Behind the Coffee

Don Jairo shared the story of coffee in the Lengupá province, narrating its origins in Ethiopia, Africa, and its journey to the coffee-growing lands of Zetaquira. This tale is beautifully illustrated on murals adorning the walls of the cabin, depicting the fascinating history. The experience became an amazing cultural and language exchange.

The story behind the coffee, step by step

The tourists enjoyed the full coffee experience, starting with the germination and planting of coffee plants. They then participated in the harvesting and selection of ripe coffee cherries, learning about the different coffee varieties grown on the farm. Later, they visited the processing facility, where they helped pulp the freshly harvested coffee.

The third part of the experience involved the wood-fired roasting process, followed by sorting and packaging the specialty coffee. A highlight of the visit was grinding coffee using a stone mill, an ancestral technique once used by Zetaquira's grandmothers before modern methods were introduced.

At the end of the visit, Don Jairo emphasized the importance of promoting ecotourism in the Lengupá province. He encouraged the tourists to become the best local ambassadors by exploring and valuing the attractions of their hometowns. He also highlighted the value of learning English to open the doors of the municipality to foreign tourists, ensuring that visitors have an unforgettable experience in Zetaquira, in the heart of Boyacá’s coffee-growing region.
